Emended diagnosis: Roughly triangular, circular, or elliptical holes in vertebrate bone, passing through the cortical bone.

Diagnosis: Roughly triangular, circular or ovoid holes or external pits, occurring solitarily or in groups, which may show recurring patterns. Outer part of the margin of the cavity shows minute, irregular jags, resulting from a brittle deformation.
