Species

Ipites bobrowskianus (Karpiński, 1962)

Taxon description

Karpiński, 1962

Description: The new OsieczOw finding fills the gap with regard to the modern genus Ips Degeer and is the first finding of brood galleries of a representative of a genus resembling the modern genus I. duplicatus Sahlb.

This specific appurtenance is irrefutably indicated by the deep position of the brood galleries in the tree bark, the shape of the pairing chamber, the length, width and number of egg tunnels the character and the slightly wavy pattern of these tunnels the character of the tunnels of the larvae as well as other elements of the brood galleries, especially the repeatedly observed onesided arrangement of egg niches in the egg tunnels. It proved impossible to identify beyond any doubt the kind of tree serving as brood galleries. Presumably it is one of the species of coniferous trees.
