Species

Bilinichnus punctatus Pacześna, 1996

Taxon description

Pacześna, 1996

Description. Two parallel rows of offset, very short, discontinuous ridges. Breaks between ridges in a row are even, some of the ridges are fluidly deformed. Traces are preserved as convex hypichnia or concave epichnia.

Remarks. General cross-section of the described traces allows them to be included in the ichnogenus Bilinichnus Fedonkin et Palij, 1979.

Comparison. Bilinichnus punctatus nov. ichnosp. differs from Bilinichnus simplex only in the discontinuous build of the ribs and a smaller tendency to bend. The maker of Bilinichnus punctatus may have been a snail crawling across the sediment surface in a rocking motion, carrying the weight of its body alternately on the sides of the organ of locomotion
