Species

Entobia mikra Wisshak, 2008

Taxon description

Wisshak, 2008

Diagnosis: Very small ichnospecies with an irregular-shaped, elongate and in places branched or anastomosing, substrate-parallel chamber or array of chambers, connected to the surface by one or several apertures. The boring bears a cuspate (in casts botryoidal) microsculpture with small, globular to irregular-shaped scars, rarely in an initial or semi-closed state.

Differential diagnosis: This ichnospecies is distinguished from all other Entobia ichnospecies by its much smaller dimension, both with respect to the whole colony as well as the size of the botryoidal microsculpture. Being aware that size is a problematic ichnotaxobase, in the present case the size differences are so pronounced (more than an order in magnitude) that it warrants consideration. In addition, the camerate architecture is less pronounced than in other entobians.
