Species

Kimberichnus digitatus Knaust, 2021

Taxon description

Knaust, 2021c

Diagnosis: Fan-shaped set of ridges with individual grooves (striae).

Description: K. digitatus occurs on the upper surface of the microbialite and as undermat traces in the sediment peeled off just below it. The delicate to robust scratches (striae) are clustered in sets with a subparallel to fan-shaped outline. The sets are typically 5–8 mm wide, while the relative short length of the striae often results in a length:width ratio of less than 1. Each set has typically 5–7, sometimes up to 15 narrow grooves and broad ridges in between, with an inter-groove distance of 0.8–0.9 mm. Some ridges have a rugose surface with transverse partitions.
