Xylonichnus meniscatus (Genise et Hazeldine, 1995)

Taksoni kirjeldused

Melnyk et al., 2020 (for 2021)

Diagnosis/description: Longitudinal borings with oval cross sections (height:width = 1:3); interconnected by tangential tunnels, with radial tunnels of different sizes connecting to exterior; containing frass that is sometimes packed in backfill meniscae

Genise & Hazeldine, 1995

Diagnosis: Longitudinal borings connected by tangen-tial ones and with radial tunnels of different sizes connec-ting the system with the exterior. Cross-sections of bor-ings are more oval than those of  Xylonichnus, the height (2.3 mm) is about one-third the width (6.3 mm). Boringscontain frass that in some cases is packed in backfillmenisci. The boring system is more dense than that of Xylonichnus and it occurs in the xylem of a partiallydecayed conifer branch.
