Podichnus centrifugalis Bromley et Surlyk, 1973

Taxon description

Robinson & Lee, 2008

Emended diagnosis of P. centrifugalis. – A cluster of closely spaced holes in hard calcareous substrates, which have a hemispherical to irregular hollow at the shell surface with their edges more or less in contact and with a shaft at the bottom. The smaller hollows/shafts at the centre of the group are more or less perpendicular to the surface; the more peripheral hollows/shafts are typically larger, entering the
substrate obliquely or centrifugally. The diameter of the holes is up to ca.200 μm. The shell surface within the outline of the trace is all or mostly removed.

Blissett & Pickerill, 2007

Description – Groups of cylindrical pits and holes, ovate in outline, that are essentially vertically oriented. Groupings of four and six are observed. The spacing between individual holes and pits vary between each other and between each sample. Diameters of individual holes or pits vary, ranging from 220-440 μm for Podichnus having groupings of four and between 20-60 μm for groupings of six.
