Species

Cuniculichnus seilacheri Höpner et Bertling, 2017

Taxon description

Venegas-Gómez et al., 2024

Diagnosis: Notches, holes, and tubes present as successive continuous types, mainly parallel to the bone surface. In general, these traces have rounded openings, smooth walls, passive infillings, and are nearly straight (Serrano-Branas et al., 2018).

Remarks: As noted by Cruzado-Caballero et al. (2021; Supplementary Material), this ichnospecies has been referred to in the literature as Cuniculichnus variabilis (e.g., Serrano-Branas et al., 2018; Perea et al., 2020; Medeiros da Silva Trifilio et al., 2023). However, in the original publication, this name appears only associated with figure captions and in some parts of the text. The name Cuniculichnus seilacheri is indicated with n. isp. in the ichnotaxonomy section, followed by its respective diagnosis, description, and derivatio nominis. As pointed out by Cruzado-Caballero et al. (2021), according to Articles 16.1, 12.1, and
Recommendation 25.1 of the rules of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN), this means that C. seilacheri is the available name; therefore, it shall be used as such in this work. The diagnosis used by Serrano-Br.nas et al. (2018) was only modified by using the term “tubes” instead of “tunnels”, as discussed above.
