Species
Scolecia serrata Radtke, 1991
Taxon description
Wisshak et al., 2008
Description. This distinct trace was only rarely encountered and forms characteristic dense pavements close to the substrate surface consisting of irregularly shaped galleries of only 1-1.5 µm in diameter with serrate micro-sculpture (Fig. 7D-F). The galleries are flattened and follow an irregular branching or fusion pattern and often exhibit a meandering course. Thereby the networks fill gaps within the colony rather than surpassing each other. As a result, the colonies are often apparently ‘trapped’ in areas between other (larger) traces (Fig. 7E). Due to their minute size and very shallow penetration, these traces are often obscured by deeper tiers of the ichnocoenosis (Fig. 7D).
