Species

Helminthopsis tenuis Książkiwicz, 1968

Taxon description

Buatois & Mángano, 2012a

Simple, unbranched, meandering trails, oriented parallel to the bedding plane. Fill is identical to the host rock. Diameter is 0.7–1.1 mm. Maximum observed length is 14.0 mm. Preserved in full relief on sandstone tops.

Helminthopsis tenuis is particularly abundant in Ediacaran–Early Cambrian ichnofaunas (e.g., Buatois and Mangano, 2003a; Jensen et al., 2006). It is interpreted as a grazing trace (pascichnion) probably produced by vermiform animals (Ksiazkiewicz, 1977; Buatois et al., 1998).
