Kõhrkalad

Taksoni iseloomustus

Eesti ala Vanaaegkonnas elanud lõugsuused (Gnathostomata) jagunevad nelja suurde rühma: rüükalad ehk plakodermid (Placodermi), akantoodid (Acanthodii), kõrhkalad (Chondrichthyes) ja luukalad (Osteichthyes).

Kõhrkalu (Chondrichthyes) eristab luukaladest kõhrest luustik ja hambakeste laadsed soomused. Eesti aladelt on leitud Devoni ajastu kivimitest üksikuid kõhrkalade soomuseid, kuid terviklikke kivistisi seni mitte.
