Brahhiopoodid e käsijalgsed

Taksoni iseloomustus


Vasakul: rünhonelliformi koja välisvaade.
Keskel: Rünhonelliformi koja sisevaade — kojapoolme ülaosas on jälgitav hambakestest ja vaokestest koosnev "lukk").
Paremal: kraniaadi koja sisevaade — kojapoolme ülaosas lukumehhanism puudub, koja sisemuses on nähtav v-kujuline kõrgem ala kuhu kinnitusid kojapoolmeid sulgevad lihased).

Käsijalgsed ehk brahhiopoodid olid üksikult elavad selgrootud, kes kuulusid mere põhjaelustiku hulka. Nende kivistisi leiame Eestis juba Kambriumi liivakividest alates, kuid kõige arvukamad on nad Ordoviitsiumi ja Siluri lubjakivides. Meieni on säilinud nende loomakeste kahest erineva kujuga poolmest koosnevad kojad, mis looma eluajal mahutasid nende pehme keha. Jala ehk pediikli abil kinnitusid paljud käsijalgsed merepõhjale või kaevusid põhjamudasse. Karbi sisemuses, selle tagumises osas, paiknesid karpi avavad ja sulgevad lihased, karbi eesmises servas hingamiseks ja toidu haaramiseks kohastunud elund – lofofoor ehk käsihaare.

Klassifikatsioon

Käsijalgsed jagatakse tänapäeval kolmeks suureks rühmaks (alamhõimkonnaks):

  • Lingulaadid, keda iseloomustab kaltsiumfosfaadist (apatiidist) koda, millel puudub lukustusmehhanism. Lingulaatide fosfaatsete kodade kuhjetest on moodustunud Eesti fosforiidilasund.
  • Kraniaadid, kellel oli kaltsiidist (kaltsiumkarbonaadist) koda, millel samuti puudus lukustusmehhanism. Viimase asjaolu tõttu käsitleti neid varasemalt koos lingulaatidega kui "lukuta brahhiopoode".
  • Rünhonelliformid kellel oli kaltsiitne koda ning kojapoolmeid ühendav nn lukk. Rünhonelliformid on kõige mitmekesisem käsijalgsete rühm sisaldades Eesti kõige sagedamini kohatavaid fossiile.
