Family
Osteichnidae Höpner et Bertling, 2017
Taxon description
Wisshak et al., 2019a
Diagnosis: Originally defned as ‘non-branched borings in bone substrates irrespective of their orientation’, here revised to: cylindrical borings with fused U-loops.
Ethological category: Domichnia (dwelling traces).
Höpner & Bertling, 2017
Remarks: This new ichnofamily is established in accordance with ICZN (1999, Art. 10.3) with Osteichnus as its type ichnogenus. It comprises all non-branched borings in bone substrates irrespective of their orientation, i.e., it does not include traces of biting or other types of bioerosion.
